GREEN CARD LOTTERY 2013 (application period 4 October 2011—5 November 2011)

The "Green Card Lottery," officially called "Diversity Visa Lottery Program," was created for people who come from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. 50,000 immigrant visas are made available through this program every year. None of these visas are available for people who come from countries that have sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the past five years. The State Department’s National Visa holds the Lottery every year, and chooses winners randomly from all qualified entries. Anyone who is selected under this lottery will be given the opportunity to apply for permanent residence. If permanent residence is granted, the individual will be authorized to live and work permanently in the United States.

You will also be allowed to bring your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21 to the United States

NATIVES OF THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR DV 2013:

BANGLADESH, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PERU, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM.

Note: Those who were born in an ineligible country may still enter the Lottery if their spouse (legally married husband or wife) or one of their parents was born in an eligible country.

On the application form – in the "note" space – write either the parent or spouse’s country of birth as "Native Country" in order to qualify.

For example, if born in Canada (an ineligible country) but the spouse is born in Italy (an eligible country), it is possible to enter the Green Card Lottery. On the application form should be written "Canada" as "Country of Birth" and "Italy" as "Native Country". This qualifies the applicant to enter the Green Card Lottery.

American Service Center offers to interested people the opportunity to participate in the Lottery.
